Ways you can save on your prescriptions:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist about generics versus brand name drugs

Generics are the number one way your doctor or pharmacist can help save you money. By choosing generic medicines you can take more control of your health care costs and start saving. Generic medicine is high quality   medicine that costs up to 80 to 85 percent less than its brand-name counterpart. The FDA requires that generic medicines have the same active ingredients, strength and dosage as their brand-name counterparts, which means they have the same quality and performance. And today nearly eight in 10 prescriptions filled in the U.S. are for generic medicine.

Use the TrueScripts Mail Service or Retail-90 pharmacy for your long-term medications

Medications that you fill on an ongoing basis could cost you less by filling them through the TrueScripts Mail Service or at a participating Retail-90 pharmacy. Plus, some medications that refilled in a 90day supply have even lower copays or coinsurance compared to a 30-day supply. This includes certain medications for high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, asthma/COPD, depression, diabetes, statins for high cholesterol, and in 2021 some osteoporosis medications.

Ways to Save on Prescription Medications

TrueScripts offers several ways to help you save money and make managing prescriptions easier:

  • 90-Day Supply: Fill eligible maintenance medications for 90 days at participating retail pharmacies for added convenience and potential savings.

  • Choose Generic Medications: Generics contain the same active ingredients and work the same way as brand-name medications, often at a lower cost.

  • Consider OTC Options: Some prescription medications may have lower-cost over-the-counter alternatives. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether an OTC option is appropriate.

  • Coupons & Copay Cards: Savings programs, such as GoodRx or manufacturer copay assistance, may help reduce costs. Certain requirements apply when using these with TrueScripts coverage.

  • Shop Around: Prescription prices can vary by pharmacy. Use the TrueScripts Drug Price Lookup Tool to compare prices at more than 70,000 pharmacies nationwide.

  • Take Medications as Directed: Follow your doctor's instructions. If you are having difficulty affording a medication, talk with your doctor about other treatment options.
